Program Note
Sephestia’s Song and I Sing of a Mayden were written for voice and piano in 1966 for Sandra Roberts (later known as Sandra Freund). God’s Grandeur was written and was orchestrated along with the other two at the Aspen Music Festival in 1968, receiving the Aspen Prize in Composition. This is a 2002 performance is by Patricia Stiles, mezzo-soprano, and a Jacobs School Faculty Chamber Orchestra, Don Freund, conducting, later recorded for her “Song Tapestry” CD.
