Program Note

Cascades, Clouds, Crevice is primarily an exploration of abstract soundscapes for bassoons. The falling cascades and densely evolving clouds are easy to identify; the crevice is a single event, the striking isolated sound of two bassoons sustaining a pair of notes a major 23rd apart. As the work progresses, the listener will discover more clearly defined rhythmic gestures, suggestive harmonies, and some penetrating lyricism that only bassoons can create.
